Cold & Sinus Tea

Anytime I start to feel the slightest bit of a cold coming on or feel run down, I make this tea. It’s warming and comforting. The honey is sweet on my tongue and soothing to my throat. The apple cider vinegar adds just enough tartness to keep the flavor interesting. A couple cups of this and I typically feel much better within the same day or overnight. In cases where practically everyone around me has the flu, I’ve taken this several days in a row as a precaution and kept from getting sick. You know when you feel that little tickle or itch in your throat and you think it’s over and you’re definitely coming down with something? That’s when you drink this tea (or earlier if possible). Actually, you can drink it anytime because it tastes so good! I like to switch between drinking this and bone broth when I’m trying to keep from getting sick. There have been times I thought, “Oh no, this is it. I am sick and there’s no going back.” I fully expect to be feeling absolutely terrible in the morning, but to my amazement, I usually awake feeling back to normal.

I recommend using raw honey in this if you can, and also organic apple cider vinegar with the mother.

For one glass of tea, combine the following into a cup of hot water and sip.

  • 1 T Raw Honey
  • 1 T Apple Cider Vinegar
  • a little lemon juice
  • a pinch of Tumeric
  • a pinch of Cayenne Pepper

If you absolutely can’t stand spicy things, you can leave out the cayenne. I like the spice it adds though. The pepper is mainly for your sinuses.

Other things can be added to this, too, like ginger if you need a tummy eased.

For the past year or so I’ve been taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water each night before bed. I believe this has also helped strengthen my immune system so that when stress and cold season comes around, I’m that much more prepared.
